Jan enjoys experimenting with art techniques and media. She conforms to one genre or media although there are common threads running through her work. She is an artist whose works echo the natural landscape that shaped her childhood, was born in the coastal town of Opunake in Taranaki, New Zealand.
Growing up amidst surroundings of clear rivers, rugged beaches, bush, and the striking forms derived from Mt Taranaki, Jan’s artistic journey was intertwined with the land from an early age. Her explorations of these majestic landscapes, characterised by volcanic rocks and the relentless power of the sea, laid the foundation for a lifelong passion for art. This profound connection to nature became an intrinsic part of her identity and, subsequently, her work.
Jan enjoys discovery through experimentation. Her style is intuitive and spontaneous, and her art serves as a deeply personal expression. She plays with texture and line, space and form, as a way of depicting what she observes in nature.
Through her art, she aspires not only to forge connections and inspire others but also to continue evolving her techniques and expressions while remaining an ever-curious participant in the kaleidoscope of the natural world.
